      <title>ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY DIVERSITY AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH NUTRITIONAL STATUS AMONG ADOLESCENTS OF ITAHARI SUB-METROPOLITAN CITY</title>

      <description>Title: ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY DIVERSITY AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH NUTRITIONAL STATUS AMONG ADOLESCENTS OF ITAHARI SUB-METROPOLITAN CITY
Authors: Prechhya, Karki
Abstract: Adolescence is a critical period of growth, making nutrition a key determinant of long-term health&#xD;
yet they are often overlooked in nutritional research national programs. Thus, this study aims to&#xD;
assess dietary diversity and its association with nutritional status among adolescents in Itahari subMetropolitan City. A cross-sectional study design was administered among 205 adolescents ages&#xD;
10-19 years of age, selected using a multistage random sampling technique. Data collection&#xD;
involved anthropometric measurements and dietary assessments through a Dietary Diversity score&#xD;
and 24-hour dietary recall. Statistical analyses, including Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests, were&#xD;
applied to examine the association between nutritional status and selected socioeconomic as well&#xD;
as lifestyle variables.&#xD;
The study revealed a notable burden of malnutrition, with of adolescents identified as 16.1%&#xD;
stunted and 14.1% thin, while overweight/obesity was observed in 4.8% of participants. Dietary&#xD;
inadequacies were also prominent, as73.7% reported insufficient energy intake, 41.5% Inadequate&#xD;
protein intake, and 73.7% inadequate fat intake. A significant proportion of adolescents had&#xD;
inadequate dietary diversity (72.7%), only 27.3% met the requirement. Factors such as age group&#xD;
(p=0.036), energy adequacy(p=0.0001), protein adequacy (p=0.04), fat adequacy (p=0.014) were&#xD;
significantly associated with stunting. Additionally, age group (p=0.019), religion (p=0.003), nonveg (p=0.036), energy adequacy (p=0.000), protein intake (p=0.000) and fat adequacy (p=0.000)&#xD;
were identified as significant predictors of poor BMI-for-age outcomes. This study highlights the&#xD;
urgent need for targeted interventions to improve dietary practices and nutritional education among&#xD;
adolescents.

      <title>ASSESSMENT OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND ASSOCIATED RISK FACTORS AMONG ADULTS RESIDING IN SUKUMBASI BASTI, DHARAN</title>

      <description>Title: ASSESSMENT OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND ASSOCIATED RISK FACTORS AMONG ADULTS RESIDING IN SUKUMBASI BASTI, DHARAN
Authors: Shrestha, Keshab
Abstract: A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the nutritional status and risk factors associated with&#xD;
it among adults residing in Sukumbasi basti, Dharan. Total 188 people between 18-70 years of age&#xD;
were assessed by applying simple random sampling method. Anthropometric measurements like&#xD;
BMI, WHR, waist circumference, height and weight were measured whereas stethoscope and&#xD;
sphygmomanometer were used to measure blood pressure. Data were collected and analyzed using&#xD;
SPSS version 22 and Microsoft package 16 (Excel and word). Chi-square test was used to establish&#xD;
the factors associated with nutritional status.&#xD;
From the study, it was revealed that 4.3% were underweight, 29.3% were normal, 13.3% were&#xD;
overweight and 53.2% were obese. The mean BMI was found to be 25.56±4.93 kg/ m2&#xD;
and WC was&#xD;
89.6±13.4cm with 0.90±0.079 WHR. Age, gender, physical activity, type of diet, marital status,&#xD;
drinking alcohol, hypertension and white meat were strongly associated while wheat and red meat&#xD;
showed close association with the nutritional status of people residing in Sukumbasi basti of Dharan&#xD;
sub-metropolitan city. Age, gender, marital status, physical activity, education were found to have&#xD;
strong association with abdominal obesity due to waist circumference while factors like age, gender,&#xD;
marital status, education and drinking alcohol were found to be associated with abdominal obesity&#xD;
(WHR). The study showed that prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults residing in&#xD;
Sukumbasi basti of Dharan are increasing rapidly than being underweight. Thus, effective public&#xD;
health intervention approaches emphasizing improved primary health care using multi-sectoral&#xD;
approach is essential.

      <title>NUTRITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EATING HABITS AMONG COLLEGE STUDENT OF ITAHARI SUB-METROPOLITIAN CITY</title>

      <description>Title: NUTRITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EATING HABITS AMONG COLLEGE STUDENT OF ITAHARI SUB-METROPOLITIAN CITY
Authors: Kritisha, Poudel
Abstract: This study aimed to assess the nutritional knowledge and eating habits of college students in&#xD;
Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 206 college&#xD;
students, selected using a multistage random sampling technique. Data were collected through&#xD;
a structured questionnaire, face-to-face interviews, and anthropometric measurements, and&#xD;
analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 20.&#xD;
The results showed that 50% of students had good nutritional knowledge, while 51%&#xD;
demonstrated adequate eating habits, and 69.4% had normal nutritional status. The association&#xD;
between nutritional knowledge and eating habits was not statistically significant (χ² = 0.175, p&#xD;
= 0.676). Similarly, no significant association was observed between nutritional status and&#xD;
eating habits (χ² = 3.992, p = 0.262) or between nutritional knowledge and nutritional status (p&#xD;
= 0.463).&#xD;
These findings suggest that, although a substantial proportion of students possess good&#xD;
nutritional knowledge and adequate eating habits, knowledge does not necessarily translate into&#xD;
practice. Targeted behavioral and educational interventions are recommended to help students&#xD;
apply nutritional knowledge in daily life and promote healthier lifestyles.
